Alyssa Milano involved in car crash

Alyssa Milano is speaking out about a "terrifying and traumatic event" she experienced.

The "Charmed" actress, 48, took to Twitter Wednesday after being involved in a car accident with her uncle, who was behind the wheel Tuesday when he suffered a medical emergency and became unconscious.

"I was a passenger in a car my Uncle Mitch was drivi
ng when he suffered a serious heart attack, resulting in a car crash," she wrote in a series of tweets. "I am grateful to the people who stopped to help us."

She added: I’ll never be able to thank them enough for the care and attention they, along with the first responders, doctors, nurses, and staff at UCLA Medical Center paid to him and to me.

According to a California Highway Patrol press release obtained by People and Entertainment Tonight, Milano and her 63-year-old uncle Mitchell J. Carp were traveling southbound on a Los Angeles freeway in a SUV when Carp started to drift into another lane. He struck another vehicle and "started to have an unknown medical issue," the release said.

"With the assistance of a Good Samaritan, they were able to bring the Ford to a stop in between the #1 and #2 lane," the press release stated. Carp was then transported from the scene to UCLA Westwood Hospital and an "uninjured" Milano was picked up by her husband David Bugliari.

USA TODAY has reached out to the California Highway Patrol for comment.

On Wednesday, Milano provided a health update on her uncle: "He’s still in the hospital, and we are unsure if he will recover."

She described Carp, who she refers to as "Uncle Mitch," as an "important part of our family. He’s with us every day, spending time with my children and present in every meaningful part of our lives."

Milano shares son, Milo Thomas, and daughter, Elizabella Dylan, with Bugliari.

TMZ reported that Milano administered CPR to Carp after the accident until first responders arrived.

Milano didn't go into detail about the crash but appeared to confirm the report by tweeting Wednesday, "Take this as your inspiration to get CPR certified."

"You don’t know when you’ll be called upon to save a life," she wrote. "It’s such a small effort and can have a huge impact."
